Silay escapee yields;
another on the loose
One of the jail inmates who bolted from the lock
up cell of the Bureau of Jail and Management Penology in Silay City,
Negros Occidental on Sunday, gave himself up to the police yesterday.
Escapee Nilo Diega who has already been convicted
for frustrated homicide and violation of the Comelec gun ban, was
fetched yesterday by the police from his house in Brgy. Narawis,
Hinigaran, after his family negotiated with RMN DYHB for his surrender.
Chief Inspector Calixto Mabugat said Diega and
Ely Boy Lauresta, 18, who is known as an Akyat Bahay Gang leader,
escaped from the BJMP facilities in Silay City on March 25, by sawing
the iron grill of their detention cell for two hours.
Police records show that Lauresta has numerous
pending cases of robbery, majority of which he allegedly committed
while still a minor. Diega claimed that he was maltreated by his
jail guards, and was not allowed visits by his wife, although he
is up for transfer to Muntinlupa in the next few days, Mabugat said.
BJMP initial investigations showed that, after bolting
from their detention, the two escapees proceeded to Brgy. Narawis
in Hinigaran. Lauresta, however, was nowhere to be found when the
Silay police went to the house of Diega in the barangay. Manhunt
operations are still ongoing against the fleeing Lauresta.*GPB.
