LOPTTA AGE-GROUP TOURNEY
Tiongco keeps crown;
Timson, Garcia get revenge

Bacoleņa Cherry Tiongco summoned all her big match experience to retain the girls' 17-Under crown in the 6th LOPTTA Age-Group Tournament, punctuating her victory with a tough five-set win at the LOPTTA Court inside the Lopue's San Sebastian Annex Building.

Tiongco held her nerve to survive La Carlota's young gun Romela Cabrela, 11-6, 3-11, 11-3, 9-11, 11-3, in the finals for her second straight crown.

La Carlota bet Andrew Timson, the 2006 losing finalist, got back at last year's champion Noah Trayco, 11-6, 11-7, 11-4, to cop the boys' 17-Under title. Another La Carlota paddler, Eurym Garcia, also exacted revenge against a former tormentor. Garcia came-from-behind to nip 2006 champion Danilo Abonales, 6-11, 11-9, 10-12, 11-6, 11-9, in the boys' 14-Under finals.

After falling short in the girls' 12-Under tournament, Michelle Osorio of Pontevedra kept the 14-Under crown at the expense of Benjielyn Dayap, 11-8, 12-10, 11-8.

Cabrela proved too classy for Osorio in 12-Under finals, winning in straight sets, 11-7, 13-11, 11-8, while St. Francis of Assisi School standout Ronald Benedict Mate toppled Joash Andrew Tanque, 12-10, 3-11, 12-10, 11-7, for the boys' 12-Under title.

It was a 1-2-3 finish for Ma-ao in the boys' 10-Under division with John Paul Gubaton beating teammate Joel Montuya, 5-11, 11-7, 11-4, 11-7, for the crown. Steven Gonzaga took third place honors.

In the girls' 10-Under finals, Beverly Paulma of Andres Bonifacio Elementary School defeated Shamiela Pineda of Tangub, 11-3, 9-11, 11-6, 11-6. *CPT
