La Salle captures
three volley titles
NOHS, LCA-MURCIA TRIUMPH, TOO
BY CEDELF TUPAS

St. La Salle capped its NOVA-NOCSF Age-Group Volleyball Championship campaigned with three crowns, highlighted by a brave fightback in the girls' 16-Under finals yesterday at the USLS College Covered Court in Bacolod City.

A set away from yielding the crown to La Carlota City, the La Sallians battled back, winning the next two sets to erase the twice-to-beat edge, before finally nailing the crown with a 25-21, 23-25, 25-20 triumph.

Dancel Jan Dusaran was named Most Valuable Player of the division, after leading La Salle to the crown. Dusaran was also instrumental in the 22-25, 25-22, 25-22 victory that forced a winner-take-all showdown.

After losing to La Carlota last week, the La Salle volleybelles of coach Malot Lozada dug deep in their resolve to overcome Negros Occidental High School and advance to the finals.

La Salle also took the girls' 12-Under title at the expense of St. John's Institute with Godelieve Dulay adjudged MVP.

The victories hiked USLS' collection to three titles, after one of its teams also topped the girls' 10-Under contest.

Powerhouse teams Victorias, spearheaded by Melchor Casipe, who was later adjudged MVP, and NOHS denied La Salle of two more titles in the boys' division.

Victorias survived a tough three-setter over the La Sallians, 24-26, 26-24, 25-19 for the 16-Under title, after NOHS, with MVP Raymund Villarias at the helm, overpowered USLS in the 14-Under finals.

MVP Loi Tolentino helped Silay smash Talisay for the girls' 14-Under crown.

Also overcoming a twice-to-beat edge was La Consolacion Academy-Murcia, which downed E.B. Magalona, 19-25, 25-21, 21-25 in the boys' 12-Under finals. Khen Mark Dunton was named MVP of the division. *CPT
