Send farmers to trainings
with SRA, MDDCs urged

The Sugar Regulatory Administration is urging Mill District Development Councils to assist small farmers in their respective districts improve their productivity through participation in the Outreach Program for the Sugar Industry Farm Management Seminars.

SRA will hold four seminars from June to September this year at its La Granja Agricultural Research and Extension Office in La Carlota City.

OPSI is one of the priority projects of the SRA Extension Department.

SRA Administrator James Ledesma said sugar production in the last five years has increased substantially and this can be partly attributed to the SRA extension work in promoting correct farming practices in sugarcane growing. He said that MDDCs can sponsor five to 10 participants to the seminars where they can acquire much-needed information to increase their sugar production.

The OPSI seminars will be held on June 13 to 15; July 17 to 19; August 14 to 16; and September 18 to 20.

SRA experts on research, development and extension will provide updates and discuss innovations in cultural practices on sugarcane growing and harvesting, high-yielding varieties, and variety programming, crop protection, efficient farm management, and organic farming.

Participants will also be provided information on various programs and projects for the sugar industry through the MDDCs.*NLG
