La Salle spikers
target 5 crowns

BY CEDELF TUPAS

The possibility of hiking its collection to a tournament-high five crowns looms large for the University of St. La Salle as four of its teams remained on track in the NOVA Age-Group Volleyball Championships, which enters its final weekend at the USLS College Covered Court in Bacolod City.

La Salle takes the court against St. John's Institute at 8:30 a.m. for the girls' 12-Under crown, before the girls' 14-Under team clashes against Negros Occidental High School in the finals two hours later.

The La Sallians defeated Bacolod City National High School, 25-20, 25-17 Sunday to stay in contention in the boys' 16-Under division. But USLS would need to beat St. Joseph's School-La Salle at 8:30 a.m. to gain the right to battle Victorias in the finals on Sunday.

NOHS also stands in La Salle's way in the girls' 16-Under category, where La Carlota has already secured the first championship berth, after a 25-22, 25-20 drubbing of USLS Sunday.

La Carlota will meet the winner of the USLS-NOHS tiff at 4 p.m. on Sunday.

La Salle had earlier won the girls' 10-Under crown Sunday via a six-game sweep. Armed with a twice-to-beat edge, E.B. Magalona goes for a second title as it battles La Consolacion Academy Murcia at 9 a.m. today in the boys' 12-Under finals.

The neighboring cities of Silay and Talisay collide for the girls' 14-Under title at 10:30 a.m. today. *CPT
