Senate bet focuses
on education drive

Senatorial aspirant Sonia Roco vowed to continue the mission of the late husband Senator Raul Roco in Dumaguete City recently where she held her campaign sorties on invitation by Councilor Manuel Sagarbarria.

Roco said she wants to focus on education because she is a teacher and a mother, and this was also the thrust of her husband.

She expressed alarm over the results of the National Collegiate Assessment Examination indicating the degrading quality of education in the country showing that with the 1.3 million high school students who took the NCAE only 700,000 passed. Those who failed may pursue vocational courses.

Roco said one of her priorities, if elected to the Senate, is to allot a budget for the study now pay later law. She hopes that every family will have a graduate, she also said.

Students should be skilled in Math, Science, English and the vernacular, she said, stressing that there is no reason why the country cannot improve the quality of its education because it has the best schools and universities.*MA
