Preserve rich
tourism culture: Gordon
BY MARICAR ARANAS

Senator Richard Gordon challenged Oriental Negros officials to preserve the rich tourism culture of the province.

Gordon, a former Tourism Secretary, was in the province Wednesday as commencement speaker at the Negros Maritime College Foundation.

He said he appreciated the traffic situation in Dumaguete City and its environment-friendly atmosphere. Gordon said these should be maintained because not all cities and provinces in the country have this relaxing ambiance.

The senator also noticed the good number of foreign tourists walking along the Rizal Boulevard in Dumaguete. He suggested that strict zoning and waste management ordinances and laws be implemented. If zoning ordinances are not followed, Dumaguete could become crowded like Cebu and Manila, he said.

Gordon said tourists love to visit places where they can relax and go to natural attractions like beaches and mountains.

The provincial tourism council has come up with a package tourism tour connecting Cebu to Oriental Negros to Siquijor and Bohol. Gordon said the package tour is a good move to further promote the province.*MA
