Western Visayas is part of the national cold chain established by the Department of Agriculture to maintain freshness and extend the shelf life of perishable products being transported from production areas to key cities and tourist spots in the country.

DA OIC-regional director Larry Nacionales said in a press release that the region has four inter-island connection projects - the Panay Cold Chain, Negros Cold Chain, Iloilo Cold Storage and Meat Cold Storage and Handling for Iloilo.

Region 6 produces yearly 2,640 tons of vegetables, including those from two Iloilo towns, and 218,800 tons of meat products. The DA 6 will also set up a cold chain Bagsakan Center in Alimodian, Iloilo, particularly in barangays under the umbrella of "Seven Cities" and fishery cold Chain project in Capiz and northern Iloilo.

Two Negrenses vying
for Gawad Saka 2007

Animal raisers in Negros Occidental are vying in the Gawad Saka for 2007 regional competition, a search for outstanding agricultural achievers organized by the Department of Agriculture, the Provincial Veterinary Office said in a press release.

The contender for small animals category is Noel Horacio Abelarde of Purok Elena, Dulao, Bago City while for large animals category, it is Trinidad Espinido of Brgy. Concepcion, Talisay City. Regional evaluators of the Gawad Saka 2007 recently visited the farms of both provincial winners, the press release said.

jobs fair in 3 city schools

Teleperformance-Bacolod is conducting an end-of-school jobs fair in three schools in the city until March 24 to fill up the 600 seats for call center agents for its new telecommunications account.

The jobs fair started at University of Negros Occidental-Recoletos, and will go to the University of St. La Salle today and

Tomorrow, at West Negros College, the call center company said in a press release.
