The man arrested for murder and illegal possession of firearms at a checkpoint in Bindoy town, Wednesday, could also be the one responsible for other unsolved crimes in Oriental Negros, particularly the ambush that killed a barangay captain and six other civilians in La Libertad recently, the police said.

A cross ballistic examination of the .45 pistol caliber pistol confiscated from suspect Sandalou Mongolore is being used to determine if the gun had been used in other crimes, including the ambush-slay in La Libertad. S/Supt. Melvin Ramon Buenafe, police provincial director, said spent shells from a .45 caliber pistol had been recovered from the ambush site. Killed in that incident were Aya Barangay Captain Eladio Baylon, and six others, who were on board a government-owned truck, when they were fired upon unidentified gunmen.

About 50 delegates from private companies and entrepreneur groups attended a seminar on Filtered Bio-Diesel Utilizing Coco Oil held in Dumaguete City, Friday. The participants were from San Carlos City in Negros Occidental and local governments in Oriental Negros, and Siquijor.

Bayawan Mayor German Saraņa said he is interested in adopting the Filtered Bio-Diesel Fuel utilizing Crude Coco Oil technology for his city, however, they would need a more detailed and comprehensive plan for a plant.

He said they can adopt the technology introduced by Dina Masa from Philippine Coconut Authority Central Office, if they can reduce the cost of the bio-diesel plant, a standard for which amounts to P1.8 million.

Private sector organizations in Oriental Negros were invited to secure accreditation with the Central Visayas Regional Development Council, in line with the selection of new set of private sector representatives to the council for 2007 to 2010.

To qualify for accreditation, PSOs must be registered with the Securities and Exchange Commission, or any government agency that registers organizations, and have conducted socio-economic activities for at least three years from date of registration.

Organizations managed by foreigners and whose officers and members are primarily foreign nationals, or are considered branches of affiliates of foreign organizations, are disqualified.
