The man arrested for murder and illegal possession of firearms
at a checkpoint in Bindoy town, Wednesday, could also be the one
responsible for other unsolved crimes in Oriental Negros, particularly
the ambush that killed a barangay captain and six other civilians
in La Libertad recently, the police said.
A cross ballistic examination of the .45 pistol caliber pistol
confiscated from suspect Sandalou Mongolore is being used to determine
if the gun had been used in other crimes, including the ambush-slay
in La Libertad. S/Supt. Melvin Ramon Buenafe, police provincial
director, said spent shells from a .45 caliber pistol had been recovered
from the ambush site. Killed in that incident were Aya Barangay
Captain Eladio Baylon, and six others, who were on board a government-owned
truck, when they were fired upon unidentified gunmen.
In his report, Bindoy chief of police Insp. Edilberto Gravador,
the motorcycle seized had expired registration papers in the name
of Miguel Vergara of either La Libertad or Guihulngan. A bonnet
was also found in its utility box.
The motorcycle was purchased from Eversure Store, a distributor
in Guihulngan.
Buenafe said he had directed the PNP in Bindoy to present the
expired registration, because of reports that somebody took it from
the police station.
The police also want to know who secured the money for the
bail of Mongolore who was reportedly a former security guard of
a piggery in Calamba, Laguna.
Mongolore has been charged with violating the Commission on Election
Resolution 7764, or the gun ban, and for illegal possession of firearms
Judge Rogaciano Rivera of the Municipal Trial Court in Sta. Catalina
issued his release order, while the inquest case was filed at Regional
Trial Court Branch 45 in Bais City.*JG
