Senate bets joining
guv's birthday
BY CARLA GOMEZ

Senatorial candidates from opposing camps are arriving today for the birthday celebration of Gov. Joseph Maraņon in Sagay City.

Scheduled to arrive are Bukidnon Rep. Juan Miguel Zubiri and Ilocos Sur Gov. Luis "Chavit" Singson of the Team Unity, and former senator Loren Legarda of the Grand Opposition.

Negros Occidental officials and Antique Gov. Sally Perez, who heads the Western Visayas Regional Development Council, are also expected to greet Maraņon today. A press statement from Singson's camp said he will be in Negros today to bring his message of supporting the solidarity among provincial governors and pushing for more countryside development.

Singson is also slated to dialog with sugar planters to gather more information on the current state of the country's sugar industry.

The press statement quoted him as saying that if elected senator he will be "the voice of our farmers and the voice of our people in the provinces."

Meanwhile, a press statement from Legarda's camp said she is arriving in Bacolod this morning and will proceed to Sagay City to attend the birthday party of the governor.

Legarda is also scheduled to meet the members of the Vice Mayors League of Negros Occidental, and on her way back to Bacolod City, will stop in Victorias and Silay cities and meet with agrarian reform beneficiaries in EB Magalona.*CPG
