SBS U-15 booters near semis

St. Benilde School moved one step closer to the semifinals by seizing the solo lead in Group D yesterday but the top spots in three other brackets in the NOFA Under-15 Provincial Championships remained in the balance.

SBS blanked Negros Occidental High School, 6-0, for its second win at the Carlos Hilado Memorial State College field in Talisay City this weekend. And despite West Negros College's impressive 12-0 thrashing of Bacolod City National High School, the SBS booters, who beat WNC, 2-1, March 11, stayed on top of the group with 6 points.

Group A co-leaders San Carlos and Celta de Victorias posted their second victories, setting up a do-or-die duel for a semifinal berth.

San Carlos overwhelmed Bago, 5-0, while Victorias eliminated Andres Bonifacio Elementary School, 4-0.

Group C has also been thrown into a two-way race with La Carlota and Talisay keeping their 100 percent records, before their showdown this weekend.

Talisay scored a narrow 2-1 win, after La Carlota blanked Cadiz, 3-0.

St. La Salle made its move in Group B, rebounding from a 1-7 beating at the hands of Handumanan to shut out Valladolid, 3-0, Saturday.

The Handumanan booters still hold the top spot in the group due to a better goal difference. They also have a game in hand against the University of Negros Occidental-Recoletos on March 22 at the BCNHS pitch.

Only the top teams from each bracket will qualify for the semifinals set at the Panaad Park and Stadium. *CPT
