An allegedly deranged father ran amuck in his home, hacked his 5-year-old son to death and seriously injured five others, Tuesday, in Sitio Naulan, Barangay Danawan, Bindoy, Oriental Negros.

Police said Michael Palomar, 27, who allegedly used a long bolo known as "pinuti" to hack his eldest son Ken, 5, in the head without any provocation. The boy died on the spot.

Also hacked were the suspect's wife Janice, 24, who was injured on her nape, and now confined at Bindoy District Hospital; his 3-year-old daughter with hack wounds on her head and in a very serious condition at the Negros Oriental Provincial Hospital; his youngest son Mike John, whose left elbow was severed; his grandmother Victoria Palomar, 72, and neighbor Doydoy Palomar, 4, who were hacked in the neck and are now being treated at the NOPH.

Responding policemen arrested Palomar who was still holding his weapon, and in an apparent state of shock. He was detained at the Bindoy police station. Police investigation disclosed that before the incident, the wife had noticed some behavioral changes in Palomar but she ignored them as he was not violent.

Ken's body was brought to the Bindoy District Hospital for autopsy while the other victims underwent trauma treatment.*RG
