Driver killed,
16 injured in San Carlos
BY GILBERT BAYORAN

A cargo truck driver died and 16 were injured, when the vehicle they were riding on fell into a canal at the Don Carlos Ledesma Highway in San Carlos City, Negros Occidental.

City police chief Ricardo de la Paz yesterday identified the fatality as Enilido Doctolan,48, of Escalante City, who was declared dead on arrival at the San Carlos District Hospital. The 16 injured passengers are now being treated in the same hospital. De la Paz said the Fuzo cargo truck driven by Eddie Dijet had a mechanical malfunction that caused it to fell into the canal.

Two other people also died and 13 others were injured in a similar accident in Brgy. Jonob-Jonob, Escalante on Monday.

On the other hand, Eigo Rosal, 70, was shot by a group of unidentified armed men who tried to rob his employer yesterday in Hacienda Balandra, Brgy. Andres Bonifacio, Cadiz City.

Chief Inspector Jefferson Descalllar, Cadiz police chief, said the armed men flagged down the vehicle driven by Rosal, who was accompanied by his employer, Edda Babaylo, and several others, along the hacienda road.

Instead of stopping, Rosal ignored the armed men and sped off, Descallar said.

This prompted the armed men to shoot the vehicle, hitting Rosal in the right side of his body, he added.

Babaylo said she was also robbed twice in 2005. This time, however, the attempt by a group of unidentified suspects armed with a. 38 caliber revolver, homemade shotguns and long firearms, to rob her was foiled, she added. Rosal is now being treated at the St. Anne Medical Center in Cadiz City.*GPB
