Bacoleņo hangs self

A 27-year-old man allegedly hanged himself in Purok Mars, Brgy. Singcang-Airport, Bacolod City at about 3 p.m. yesterday.

Reynaldo Gonzales Alegora 55, found his son Christopher with a nylon cord tied around his neck and hanging from the ceiling of his room, SPO2 Cesar del Carmen, Police Station 8 officer-in-charge told the DAILY STAR.

The older Alegora told the police he heard his one-year-old granddaughter crying, but the door was locked so he forced open the door and when he entered their house he was shocked to see the body of his son.

A cousin of the victim, Richard Donasco Alegora, 34, told the police Christopher had talked about having a problem and his plan to commit suicide, the day before the incident, but he advised him to be strong and find ways to solve it.

The neighbors also claimed they heard the victim and his wife fighting hours before the incident, del Carmen said.

He said there was no foul play in the death of Christopher, who was the second person who killed himself this month in Bacolod, police records show.

On March 6, a 65-year-old man, who had slashed his wrist with a bladed weapon, was also found by a relative at his residence in Hacienda Consolacion Ramos, Brgy. Granada, Bacolod City, police reports said.

On Feb. 25, a 71-year-old inmate also committed suicide by drinking 120ml of Malathion pesticide while at the lock-up cell of the Bacolod City Police Office, police reports also said.*DMG

IN CALATRAVA
8 undergo paraffin
test for shootout

The two Army detachment commanders and six other militiamen who figured in an alleged shootout with two civilians who were killed in Brgy. Minapasok, Calatrava, Negros Occidental, were subjected yesterday to paraffin tests at the police Crime Laboratory in Bacolod City.

Senior Supt. Rosendo Franco, police provincial director, said the firearms allegedly recovered from one of the slain civilians and that of soldiers, slugs and empty shells found at the crime scene, were also subjected to ballistic tests.

Police investigators were ordered to conduct an in-depth investigation into the killing of ex-CAFGU member Norberto Gallego and his nephew, Crisanto Gallego Tayuba, because of the conflicting versions on the incident. Inspector Danilo Zuniega, Calatrava police chief, yesterday said the family of the victims signified their intention to pursue legal action against the soldiers.

Zuniega said the families of the victims further claimed that they have witnesses to prove that Gallego and his nephew were shot by the soldiers.

Franco said he is still awaiting the result of the paraffin test conducted by the Crime Laboratory personnel on the bodies of the slain victims, to determine if they have fired guns.

Ex-CAFGU member Anthony Casipong who was hit by a stray bullet, claimed that soldiers, accompanied by paramilitary troopers, fired at Gallego and his nephew, upon their arrival at the barangay public market without any provocation.

On the other hand, soldiers claimed Gallego fired first, and that, they recovered a Squires Bingham .38 caliber revolver with three spent shells and three live ammunition from his possession, which led to the shoot-out *GPB
