'Tax collection
not a problem'
BY JUANCHO GALLARDE

Target collection is not a problem of the local Bureau of Customs in Dumaguete as the bureau overshot its collection last year by P25 million, its local office said.

The bureau through the tandem of customs collector Medolita Cabanag and her deputy Camad Ali, collected P24 million for the first two months this year, records showed.

The bulk of the collection is from palm oil importation of Dumaguete Coconut Oil Mills, from Orica and Pryce Gas.

Cabanag expects the collection to reach P40 million ending in March, only P9 million short of their target which is P49 million for the year. Under the Lateral Attrition Law, employees and officers who failed to reach their target have to be removed from office or transferred.

But if they reach or overshoot their target collection, 15 percent or more will be cascaded as incentives to the concerned officers.

Until now, the local customs office still has to receive word as to when it shall be released.

Reports said that even the Cebu customs office, which failed to reach their target, will also receive the across the board incentive.*JG
