IN SAN CARLOS
3 heist
suspects nabbed
The police arrested three suspects in the robbery
hold-up of a businesswoman Sunday at Nueva Era Street, Brgy. 5,
San Carlos City, about 30 minutes after the commission of the crime.
The arrested suspects were identified by the
police as Jovy Aresgar and Joven Rebanuel, both 19, and Crisanto
Aguilar, 27, all of San Carlos City, Negros Occidental. Police investigations
show that the suspects had robbed at gunpoint businesswoman Adela
Canedo of P55,000 in cash.
Senior Supt. Ricardo de la Paz, San Carlos police
chief, yesterday said pursuit operations conducted by his men, assisted
by the victim, led to the arrest of the three suspects, but not
the recovery of the stolen money which is believed to have been
passed on to their accomplices, and the .38 caliber revolver used
in the commission of the crime.
De la Paz said Canedo positively identified the
arrested suspects as those ones who had forcibly taken her money.
Police investigations also showed that Aresgar
had been involved in two stabbing incidents in previous years. However,
complainants failed to file criminal complaints against him for
unknown reasons, de la Paz also said.
A case of robbery was filed yesterday by the police
before the San Carlos City Prosecutor's Office against the suspects
who are now locked up in jail.*GPB

Man
runs amuck,
shot by cop
A policeman reportedly shot a Bacolod resident who
ran amuck at Calong-Calong, Zone 1, Brgy. Singcang-Airport, Bacolod
City at about 7 p.m. Sunday.
Rushed to the Corazon Locsin Montelibano Memorial
Regional Hospital was Rogelio Budionganon Parar, 30, of Calong-Calong,
in the barangay, and a native of Surigao del Sur, with a gunshot
wound on his left foot allegedly inflicted by PO2 Rolito Flores,
police reports said. Police Station 8 officer-in-charge SPO2 Cesar
del Carmen yesterday said Flores and PO2 Noel Vergara responded
to the area, when a concerned citizen informed them that Parar was
hacking the house of Eddie Moyani Payumo.
Payumo, a barangay tanod, and his family ran for
safety when Parar, armed with a 22-inch bolo, went berserk and attacked
them, Del Carmen said.
The responding policemen tried to pacify Parar
who was still hacking the walls of the house of Payumo, but the
suspect ignored them.
Flores fired a warning shot and slowly approached
Parar who in return attempted to hack him. The police officer fired
his gun, hitting the suspect on the foot, del Carmen said. The policemen
disarmed Parar when he fell to the ground, he added.
Flores and Payumo filed charges for direct assault
against a person or agent in authority and for violation of Comelec
Resolution 7764 and City Ordinance 358, or illegal possession of
deadly weapon, del Carmen said.*DMG

Kin of road
mishap victims
disinterested in filing case
Chief Insp. Jefferson Descallar, Cadiz PNP head,
yesterday said the family of the two persons who were killed when
a Ceres bus rammed them in Cadiz City Saturday, has not yet executed
affidavits for the filing of charges against the bus driver.
Descallar yesterday told the DAILY STAR in a phone
interview, that a relative of the victim, Rina Alvarez, told him
they might not file criminal charges against bus driver Jerry dela
Torre because the bus company had shouldered all their expenses.
He said, however, that the police is willing to help the family
in case they decide to push through with the case.
On Saturday, Alvarez and her nephew were crossing
the street at Km. 54, Crossing Valderrama, Brgy. Luna, Cadiz City
at about 3 p.m., when the bus bumped them, police reports said.
Alvarez died on the spot, while the boy was rushed
to the Cadiz District Hospital and was later transferred to the
Silay Provincial Hospital where he died. De la Torre who was
arrested by the police in a follow-up operation is still detained
in the lock-up cell of the Cadiz PNP.*DMG
