AMBUSH AFTERMATH
More troop deployment
to mountain areas eyed

The ambush-slay of a barangay captain and six other civilians on Friday in La Libertad town has caused the Philippine Army to field more troopers in the mountainous areas of Oriental Negros, and order the police not to let their guard down.

"We're trying to assess where they are going as that is where we'll concentrate," Brig. Gen. Gregorio Fajardo, 303rd Infantry Brigade commander told ABS-CBN yesterday.

He was alluding to initial investigation results that revealed that the incident could be related to insurgency in Negros island, and perpetrated by suspected rebels.

Some tourists also headed to other destinations in Oriental Negros such as Lake Balinsasayao in Sibulan and Lake Balanan in Siaton.

Noreco electrification program
benefits 30 families in Banilad
BY JUANCHO GALLARDE

At least 30 families in Purok Dap-dap, Barangay Banilad, Dumaguete City, will avail of the electrification program of the Negros Oriental II Electric Cooperative through temporary connections while they are putting up their residences on a public land.

Residents have said that while the program has gone to remote areas, many of them in the urban areas have not availed of it.

Vice Mayor William Ablong responded to this by coordinating with NORECO 2 through general manager Ephraim Taclob. Ablong said the residents have agreed that when the lot will be utilized for public use, they shall surrender or relinquish their rights of possession over the land upon written demand from the city government.
