Oriental Negros Board Member Marcelo Adanza said he is planning
to expand the carabao dispersal program in Zambuanguita, Oriental
Negros.
Adanza said that, after its successful implementation last
year, he plans to replicate the program in neighboring towns, from
Valencia to Basay, which have agriculture farming projects. The
program was implemented last year in Barangay Kalumboyan, Bayawan
using the dispersal concept of eventual ownership of a carabao.
It started with 12 heads of carabao costing P100,000. At present
there are an estimated 400 carabao heads which were dispersed to
farmers in Zambouaguita.
Adanza said the original concept of the program is to give
opportunity to farmers to own a carabao.
He said the initial phase of the program implementation was
not easy because they needed to closely monitor the farmers.
Under the program, the local government unit will provide the
mother carabao and after it has produced two offsprings, the mother
carabao will automatically belong to the farmer.
Adanza said the program could become more successful if
there is a close monitoring of the beneficiaries.*MA
