PCW holds forum today

The Provincial Council for Women of Negros Occidental will hold a Forum on Economic Opportunities for All Women Chairpersons and Sectoral Representatives at 9 a.m. today, at the Kadiwa Center, Gatuslao Street, in Bacolod City in celebration of the International Women's Day, a press release from organizers said.

Former provincial Board Member Cecille del Castillo, executive director of the Negros Women for Tomorrow Foundation, is the resource speaker.

The forum will kick off the council's activities in observance of March as Women's Month on the theme, "CEDAW ng Bayan: Kabuhayan ng Kababaihan."

The month-long observance is anchored on promoting CEDAW or the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women, and widening its reach among policy makers, planners and other stakeholders with emphasis on promoting women's economic rights and women's economic empowerment.

It also involves the International Theme - Ending Impunity for Violence against Women.

Meanwhile, Gender and Advocacy Council of Bacolod chaired by Councilor Jocelle Batapa-Sigue, is holding today an assembly to launch the "Women's Handbook" on the laws and ordinances on women and children, to be distributed in the barangays.

Paralegal seminars are also set March 11, 17, 25 and 31 to create awareness and familiarization of the laws concerning women especially on domestic violence, trafficking and worst forms of child labor.

Each seminar will be participated in by 150 barangay tanod, who are in the frontline in protecting the safety of residents in the barangay, the press release added.*

Book launch set tomorrow

The Cultural Center of the Philippines and the Negros Cultural Foundation will present a book called "Lakbay Sining: Readings on Cultural Development in the Philippines," tomorrow, 4 p.m., at the Negros Museum in Bacolod City, a press release from organizers said.

Cely Jugo will give the welcome remarks, and Lyn Gamboa will give a message, followed by a number from the Scholars of the Dwight Rodrigazo Dance Pull.

Robert Harland will give an insight on the book, Chinggay Bernardo will give a message, followed by a presentation by the Madrigal Singers, the press release added.*
