IN DAUIN
Investigation ordered on
CRM fund misuse
BY MARICAR ARANAS

Dauin Vice Mayor Frances Araula ordered a probe on Mayor Rodrigo Alanano for allegedly spending the Coastal Resource Management fund for other than its intended purpose.

Araula said she checked with the office of the municipal accountant and the treasurer's office and confirmed that the CRM fund was used by the mayor for his "other expenses". The CRM funds were used to purchase new cellphones and were used for partying and other occasions, not related to the project, she said.

The CRM Code of Dauin states that the sharing of the collected funds is divided into three: 40 percent for the Fishermen's Association; 40 percent for the local government; and 20 percent for the barangay.

call to invest in NegOr, Dumaguete

The Filipino-Chinese Chamber of Commerce in Oriental Negros headed by Alex Sy reiterated President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo's call to take a bigger stake in domestic investment, and take advantage of the country's economic gains.

"As long as the economy is stable, it is the best time to invest," Sy said, citing the important role of local investors in the economic growth of towns and cities. He said local investors are important because they will affect the livelihood of the masses. Sy lauded one of President Arroyo's centerpiece projects -- the Nautical Highway - calling it one way of cutting down the expenses of transporting products between islands.
