Release funds, village
chiefs urging mayor

Dauin Association of Barangay Captain president Efreniano Partosa slammed Mayor Rodrigo Alanano for allegedly withholding the release of the barangay funds.

He said the funds are from the Priority Development Fund of Rep. Herminio Teves (3rd District, Oriental Negros) and were supposed to be distributed to the various projects of 21 barangays in Dauin, and given in 2005 yet. The allocation was deposited in a bank under the account of the municipality of Dauin.

Partosa said the mayor refused to release the funds after they declined to agree to his proposal that each barangay should contribute P28,000 as counterpart.

He said the proposal was made during the municipal barangay associations meeting. Partosa said the mayor was planning to use the money for the purchase of a dump truck.

But the barangay heads did not agree with the proposal since it would decrease their budget for the barangay. Besides, the money is for different barangay projects, Partosa added.

He also said he tried to approach Alanano but he was told that the mayor will not sign the release papers if they will not agree to his proposal. He also tried to ask the office of Rep. Teves but was referred back to Alanano.*MA
