MEV gets fourth
slot in Macias' lineup
BY ALEX PAL

Just when it seemed like she would have to run for reelection as Provincial Board Member of the second district as an independent candidate, Mariant Escano Villegas was admitted Saturday as the fourth candidate for the Provincial Board under the lineup of future gubernatorial candidate, Dr. Emilio Macias II.

"Yes, that's confirmed. Mariant and I will now be in the same party," Board Member Melimore Saycon told the Visayan DAILY STAR.

Their two other running mates for the Provincial Board will be Dumaguete Councilor Saleto Erames and incumbent Board Member Erwin Macias.

Alanano facing COA probe, too
BY JUANCHO GALLARDE

The Commission on Audit is investigating Mayor Rodrigo Alanano of Dauin for the collection of traveling allowance and the alleged use of a government-owned vehicle.

The case stemmed from the complaint raised by the Sangguniang Bayan headed by Vice Mayor Frances Araula.

Araula and seven members of the municipal council had passed a resolution calling on the Ombudsman and the COA to investigate the mayor for using the government-owned green Pajero vehicle, even during weekends and holidays.

DOLE conducts regular
drive versus trafficking
BY RENE GENOVE

The campaign against human trafficking and illegal recruitment in Oriental Negros is being conducted regularly, Kenrick Villaluz of the Department of Labor and Employment said.

Villaluz said local recruitment contracts for domestic helpers are verified and recruitment agencies must first secure certifications from DOLE, and the recruits must undergo an interview.

A task force composed of personnel from the maritime police, Philippine Ports Authority and Coast Guard also man the local port area to spot signs of trafficking and immediately make arrests or rescue of victims, he added. The rescued victims turned over to the Department of Social Welfare and Development, included four minors from Mabinay last month, provincial Social Welfare officer Alieta Austero said.
