Sibulan settles electric
bill for brgy streetlights

Mayor Antonio Renacia said the municipality of Sibulan will shoulder the monthly electric bill for the use of sodium lights installed in Barangay Looc.

Despite the opposition of barangay officials, the municipality implemented the project. The Barangay Council had passed a resolution for the disconnection of all sodium lighting along the national highway in Looc, Sibulan for lack of funds. Negros Oriental Electric Cooperative personnel referred the controversy to Renacia, who, in turn, requested the electric cooperative to procure all documents such as a resolution, flat rate inventory reports, consumer account inquiry of the flat rate and the metered streetlights.

The mayor said he does not want to compromise the safety, security and welfare of the people and the commuting public. He believes that a well-lighted street is a crime deterrent.*MA
