The Department of Energy has, so far, listed 3,955 auto-LPG vehicles
in the country and the industry continues to grow, a report from
the DOE said.
These include privately owned and government-owned vehicles
have also converted to auto-LPG.
The DOE report said that dispensing stations have also flourished,
including 20 service station-based, 11 stand alone stations, five
refilling/bulk plant-based, and five garage-based, all in Metro
Manila. Meanwhile, in the Visayas, there are at least 20 dispensing
stations; seven stand alone; and 13 garage-based stations; and in
in Mindanao, there are eight dispensing stations.
The DOE report added that conversion shops have also surfaced
with nine auto-LPG conversion companies in 14 areas in Metro Manila
while more shops are expected to open in other parts of the country
this year.
Moreover, the DOE has also issued guidelines governing the
business of supplying, hauling, storage, handling, marketing and
distribution of LPG for automotive use, to protect the consumers.
Before engaging in the auto-LPG dispensing station business,
an applicant is required to secure Standard Compliance Certificate
from the DOE upon submission of a set of documentary requirements.
An auto-LPG industry business is considered illegal if it operates
without an SCC.*NLG
