The police arrested three persons for allegedly posting election
campaign materials of re-electionist Senator Manny Villar in Brgy.
Palaka, Valladolid, which they said is not an authorized common
poster area for candidates in the May 14 elections.
Senior Inspector Rico Santotome, Valladolid police chief,
yesterday identified the arrested suspects as Christian Bedayo and
Randy Nu-anggay, both residents of San Enrique, and Rene Jawod of
Brgy. Saguabanwa, Valladolid.
The arrest of Bedayo, Nu-anggay and Jawod was made almost
three weeks after 10 persons were also arrested by the police in
Bacolod City for a similar violation.
Santotome said the three suspects were caught in the act of
posting election campaign materials of Villar outside the common
poster areas designated by Comelec in the town.
The Comelec warned policemen and barangay officials that those
who allow illegal postering of election campaign materials in their
areas could be held liable for dereliction of duty.
RA 9006 prohibits posting campaign posters and other propaganda
materials outside common poster areas, such as streets, bridges,
public structures or buildings, trees, electric posts, schools,
shrines, main thoroughfares, among others.
Santotome said the three arrested suspects are now detained at
the police station jail of Valladolid.*GPB
