Businessman Ramon "Monet" Lacson Jr. yesterday agreed to run for
mayor of Talisay City, after more than 1,000 residents gathered
at his residence urging him to seek the post in the May polls.
Lacson who had earlier announced his withdrawal from the race,
yesterday said he could not say "no" to the cry of his constituents
who trooped to his residence to show their support at about 7 a.m.
yesterday. Talisaynons from various sectors, such as the youth,
women, farmers and professionals, carried placards in front of Lacson's
residence in Brgy. Zone-5, Talisay City. They were overjoyed when
Lacson gave in to their pleas.
"Talisay needs a fiscal manager, one who can run the city
and make it work," Lacson said.
Lacson, who will run against incumbent mayor Eric Saratan,
said he will file his certificate of candidacy a day before the
deadline for filing for local elective positions.
His platform includes the improvement of Talisay City, Lacson
said.
"Talisay does not need a doctor, one who wants to cure the
sick should go to the hospital, but what does he (Saratan) know
about running a business or how to balance finances?" Lacson said.
He said he is challenging the competence of Saratan and will
not run for mayor if he believes in his capabilities.
Lacson, who has no political party yet, said running with
him are 10 candidates for councilor, but he has no vice-mayor.
Meanwhile, incumbent Talisay Councilor Charles Benedict Lacson
said the gathering was organized by his uncle's supporters who believe
in his dreams for the betterment of the city.
He said his uncle's decision to withdraw his candidacy had affected
his constituents, and this drove them to make a move to change his
decision and they succeeded.*DMG
