Carmona files CoC

Rep. Tranquilino Carmona yesterday filed his certificate of candidacy for congressman of the first district of Negros Occidental as the official candidate of the Nationalist People's Coalition.

Carmona, accompanied by Gov. Joseph Maraņon and Board Member Elmero Layumas, filed his CoC before Provincial Comelec head Jessie Suarez shortly before noon.

The solon said that, if reelected he will see to the completion of all the infrastructure projects he has started, continue his med ical assistance and scholarship programs, and help his marginalized constituents. Suarez reminded Carmona that he needed to undergo a drug test, which is a requirement for all candidates running in the May polls. The deadline for submission of drug tests is March 29 but he will be given an allowance until April 4, Suarez said.

Although Carmona has filed his CoC, Suarez stressed that the campaign period for congressmen and candidates for local polls starts on March 30 so he cannot distribute materials asking the public to vote for him until then.

Carmona is expected to be challenged by former Rep. Julio Ledesma for the first congressional seat.

Maraņon said he will file his CoC for reelection as governor after his birthday on March 18.*CPG.
