Magsaysay campaigns in
southern Negros Occ

HINIGARAN - The campaign slogan "Magsaysay is my guy" in the 1950's of former President Ramon Magsaysay, is still alive 50 years after.

The slogan which was also used by Senator Ramon Magsaysay Jr. during his campaign sorties, has been passed on to Team Unity senatorial candidate Vic Magsaysay, nephew of President Magsaysay, who also served as governor of Zambales for 28 years.

Magsaysay said he hopes that its magic will also catapult him to the Philippine Senate, with the help of Negrenses who also voted his uncle as president of the Philippines, and his cousin, Ramon Jr., as senator. He added that it was the late President Magsaysay who gave honor to Moises Padilla, a Nacionalista Party mayoralty candidate of Magallon town, who was tortured to death by the special police of a former Negros Occidental governor in the 1950s.

The name of Magallon was later changed to Moises Padilla, now among the five municipalities of the 5th district of Negros Occidental. Magsaysays he hopes to get the support of its residents in his senatorial bid.

Magsaysay who spoke at a forum here attended by government officials of the 5th district, said he does not want a "repetition" of the incident, referring to the case of Padilla. Magsaysay who is on his last term as Zambales governor, described himself as a "Less talk but more work" type of person.*GPB
