Dizon chessfest slated

The 2nd JRR Dizon Age-Group Chess Tournament is set March 24-25 at the University of St. La Salle-Integrated School Covered Court.

The event, aimed at drumming up support for chess and discovering new talents, is bankrolled by the JRR Dizon Foundation, Inc. in cooperation with the Raymundo R. Dizon, Jr. Memorial Foundation, Chess Players Federation of Negros, Inc. the Bacolod Chess Training Center, and Terry Capistrano.

The two-day tournament is also held in memory Hermelinda Dizon.

Four titles are at stake in the tournament, namely, the high school boys and girls' as well as the elementary boys and girls' crowns. Participants must be enrolled for school-year 2006-2007 to be eligible to play, tournament organizer Jessie Sanchez said.

Only 60 slots are available in each category on a first-come-first-serve basis. Deadline for registration is on March 20. Registration fee is pegged at P50.
