BCPO inmate who drank
insecticide dies at hospital

The 71-year-old inmate who drank insecticide at the detention cell of the Bacolod City police office, died at the hospital Wednesday.

The detainee, whose name is being withheld by the DAILY STAR, was rushed to the Corazon Locsin Montelibano Memorial Regional Hospital Monday after he took in 120 ml of Malathion insecticide, police reports said. The Bacolod Warrant and Subpoena Section operatives had apprehended the inmate on the strength of an arrest warrant issued by Judge Ray Alan Drilon of the Regional Trial Court, Branch 41, for allegedly raping his two minor daughters in 2005.

Meanwhile, Supt. Pedrito Escarilla, chief of the Bacolod Intelligence and Investigation Branch, yesterday said they are still determining who gave the insecticide to the inmate. He said their investigation showed that the last persons who visited him were his brother and wife.

Acting Bacolod police director Senior Supt. Ronilo Quebrar had instructed Escarilla to determine the administrative liabilities of the police officer assigned at the BCPO detention cell.

Quebrar said the policeman may be administratively liable if it is proved that his negligence resulted in the entry of the insecticide taken by the inmate.*DMG

Cops dispose of 6 bombs

The Bacolod City Mobile Group yesterday disposed of six explosives, one of them a World War II aerial bomb, at the northern portion of the reclamation area in Brgy. 8, Bacolod City.

Chief Insp. Armando Tubongbanua, CMG head, yesterday said they disposed of the bombs and grenades near the seashore, but far away from residences for safety.

Bacolod bomb technician Denny Montoya said they buried the explosives about four feet below the ground and placed blasting caps on them for disposal. He said they collected the bombs from concerned citizens who endorsed them to his office.

Tubongbanua said the bombs had to be disposed so they could not be hazards to the public. Three hours after the bomb disposal, a Bacolod resident yesterday endorsed another bomb artillery shell to the Bacolod City police office, Montoya said. He said the bomb was dug up by workers of a construction company in Brgy. Alijis, Bacolod City at about 3 p.m. yesterday.*DMG
