A member of the Sangguniang Bayan of Maydulong, Eastern Samar
suffered cardiac arrest in his hotel room and was declared dead
on arrival at the Negros Oriental Provincial Hospital Dumaguete
at 2:30 a.m. Wednesday.
SBM Nick Montes, 53, married, had checked in at Room 7, on
the 3rd floor of J&J Hotelier, Barangay Looc, Dumaguete City.
His roommate was his cousin, Leo Azura, 57, married and also a councilor
of Maydulong, Eastern Samar.
Initial reports from Scene of the Crime operatives disclosed
that the victim and his co-councilors were on an educational tour
in Dumaguete.
At 2 a.m. Wednesday, Montes and his colleagues arrived at the
hotel from Hayahay, a local restobar in the city, then went to sleep.
Police probers said that Azura saw Montes having chills and
seizures and had difficulty in breathing. He tried to wake him up,
but Montes did not respond. Azura then called up the hotel management
and they brought Montes to the NOPH where the attending physician
declared him already dead upon arrival.
The SOCO recovered from the victim's room cash and personal
belongings, and assorted medicines such as a bottle of 250 Lanoxin
tablets, four Aluminum Hydroxide tablets, two Loperamide tablets,
six Spironolactome Butizide, 50mg tablets of Clomifene Citrate,
330 mg Carmitine (empty sachet), seven Losartan Potasium, Grape
seed oil extract powder 500mg. P2,756 in cash, eyeglasses with case,
3310 Nokia cellphone and a brown wallet.
Police said these items were turned over to the victim's other
cousin, Leandro Loste, at the city police station.*RG
