Embroiled in a raging controversy that had overshadowed his stature
as the country's top basketball player, James Yap would rather let
his game do the talking.
Yap, the reigning MVP of the Philippine Basketball Association,
repeatedly dodged questions on his relationship with wife, Kris
Aquino, and an alleged sexual relationship with a beauty clinic
assistant, Hope Centeno.
"No comment," Yap said when asked by television reporters
about his relationship with Centeno, who came out of national television
to reveal details of her alleged 11-month romance with the cager
from Escalante City, Negros Occidental.
Sought for a statement on the emotional and physical space
his wife Kris is asking from him, Yap replied, "no comment".
Yap also blurted another "no comment" response when asked
if he is affected by the controversy. He also remained mum on the
report that he had been left out from the senatorial campaign of
brother-in-law, Noynoy Aquino.
Yap said he is focused on helping the team achieve its goals
in the PBA conference that will start this weekend. "I'm a professional
and I got to do what I got to do," Yap said in Filipino during a
press conference of his team, Purefoods. Yap also asked the public
to support their team.
A news organization claimed that they found at the press conference
venue a piece of paper that appeared to be containing guidelines
for Purefoods players on how to deal questions on the controversy.
Meanwhile, Dr. Vicky Belo, the owner of the Belo Medical Group
Clinic, where Yap and Centeno allegedly had an affair, belied the
claims of the former clinic assistant and even accused her of being
Yap's "stalker". *CPT
