SJI, BCCN tankers triumph;
Destiny, USLS-IS

Joshua Balinas of the University of St. La Salle swept all of his 10 events to share the limelight with four school-based squads in the inaugural Monsignor's Cup Swim Fest at the Panaad Olympic Pool in Bacolod City Saturday.
Emerging champions are BCCN (high school boys), Destiny (high school girls), St. John's Institute (elementary boys) and University of St. La Salle-Integrated School (elementary girls). St. Scholastica's Academy tanker Krestia Lacson and Bacolod Christian College of Negros also opened their campaigns with aplomb, capturing eight golds each
The
BCCN tankers, powered by Piccio, the top tanker in the high school boys I and
II category, combined for 257 points to wrest the title, ahead of USLS with 204
points.

Salle, DHSBNHS Buoyed by its opening-day conquest of reigning champion Doņa Montseratt Lopez National High School, the University of St. La Salle guns for the solo lead today against Doņa Hortensia Salas Benedicto NHS in the Negros elimination of the Shakey's Girls Volleyball Invitational League at the USLS College Covered Court. Gametime is set at 10:30 a.m. with DHSBNHS of La Carlota
City also hoping to follow up its 25-8, 25-13 beating of St. Benilde School. Both
La Salle, a 25-18, 22-25, 25-13 winner over DMLMNHS Sunday, and DHSBNHS actually
have two assignments today with the host team battling St. Scholastica's Academy,
one of three squads that will make its tournament debut today, at 4 p.m. |
| TnT nears PBA finals Mark Cardona exploded for 30 points as Talk N' Text moved on the threshold of the PBA Fiesta Conference finals with a 112-111 victory over Red Bull in Game 5 of their best-of seven semifinal series at the Cuneta Astrodome in Pasay City last night. Cardona went 10-for-12 from the field as he breached the 30-point mark for the second time in the series. He also dished out five assists. But it was JJ Sullinger,
who took matters into his own hands with the game on the line, scoring 10 of his
team's last 12 points in the final two minutes. With Red Bull up by four points,
the charismatic Talk 'N Text import completed a three-point play then knocked
in an eight-footer to give the Phone Pals a 105-104 lead. |
