Cops recover headless
body of
CAFGU man

The headless body of a former member of the Citizen Armed Forces Geographical Unit was recovered by policemen Wednesday, a few meters away from his house in a mountainous area of Sitio Catagbacan, Barangay Siapo, San Jose, Oriental Negros.
The body was identified by relatives to be that of Benjamin Ybias, 50, married, of Sitio Catagbacan, Barangay Siapo, San Jose.
Operatives of
the Amlan and San Jose Philippine National Police said they found the victim's
body, without its head, lower left arm and right hand fingers. The cadaver was
brought to a funeral parlor in Sibulan town for post mortem examination, by the
Sibulan Municipal Health Officer Merlinda Papas.

plant Army troopers and environment personnel planted about 2,000 mangrove seedlings along the coastlines of Guihulngan, Oriental Negros, recently, a press release from the Civil Military Operations Office of the Army's 11 Infantry Battalion. The
Bravo Company of the army was led by 1LT Leo Christopher Cunanan, together with
representatives from the Department of Environment and Natural Resource, Bureau
of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources. Mangrove trees contribute to the preservation
of the marine environment but their population is rapidly deteriorating, because
of the destruction of mangrove forests brought about by over-harvesting for construction
and charcoal production, pollution, global warming and other causes. |

dad opposing The proposal to increase laboratory fees and other services at the Dumaguete City Health Office is being opposed by Councilor Rotelio Lumjod. Lumjod said he wants Dumaguete to set an example as the only local government unit in Oriental Negros providing free health services. On the other hand, its author of the amendment, Councilor Noel de Jesus said he only wants to rationalize the rates and provide more services to Dumagueteños. As stewards of the people's money, de Jesus said it is
their duty to see to it that the funds allotted to a certain department will not
be wasted. He added that the increased fees will have a break-even effect on the
city health finances. |
