DILG conducts seminar
for newly elected officials

The Department of Interior and Local Government in Oriental Negros is now preparing for the mandated Newly Elected Officials seminar, after local elected officials have formally taken their oath of office today.

Provincial DILG officer Jofralito Lorico said the seminar will discuss the rules, guidelines and mandatory requirement and responsibilities of elected officials.

Lorico added that some officials who have no orientation on the Local Government Code which provide for guidelines in governance.

The State of Local Governance Report will also be tackled during the seminar. This will be the guide of the LGU in order to determine its strong and weak points in the implementation of local governance. Because of the limited budget, Lorico said the provincial government is divided into five clusters to also save time for field officers.

He admitted that even with the implementation of the NEO seminar, there are some officials who still forget the strict prohibition of the local government.

He advised them to seek legal advice from the Provincial Legal office in case they have problems. Lorico added that local elected officials should also be careful especially in areas where people are vigilant in scrutinizing the implementation of the Local Government Code. *MA
