face raps for cutting naturally grown trees
A criminal complaint was filed by the Community Environment and Natural Resources
Office in Bacolod City against three persons arrested recently for illegally cutting
naturally grown trees, a press release from DENR-CENRO said.
Gabriel Sangler, and Elicasio and Enrico Dohenio are also facing charges for gathering
and recovering endemic tree species and charcoal-making inside the North Negros
Natural Park, at Sitio Tambara, Brgy. San Fernando in Talisay City.
They were apprehended by a join team of DENR-CENRO, police Task Force Ilahas,
Talisay PNP and city environment office, and Bantay Bukid Brigade.
Confiscated from them were 22 pieces of round timber, 439 pieces pole-sized sapling,
which totaled to 461 pieces timber, as well as two hoes, a spade, and three bolos,
the press release said. Damage to property was pegged at
P13,080. The suspects are now detained at the Talisay PNP

Frustrated
homicide suspect apprehended A man facing
a case for frustrated homicide was arrested Monday by policemen, at his residence
at Hda. Estrella, Brgy. Sicaba in Cadiz City, Negros Occidental, a press release
from the PNP station said. Rene Pelayo, 38, married, was
apprehended by the police led by C/Insp. Jefferson Descallar on the strength of
a pending warrant of arrest issued by Judge Renato Muņez of the Regional Trial
Court, Branch 60. Pelayo was tagged in the shooting of a
42-year-old fisherman in Sitio Pangpang, Brgy. Luna in January who was then checking
his paddle boat docked at the Sicaba River. The suspect is
now detained at the Cadiz City PNP station and his bail bond has been set for

'Shoplifter' collared
A 15-year-old girl was endorsed by a department
store guard to the police for allegedly leaving a business establishment without
paying for the merchandise she had taken in Bacolod City yesterday.
The teenager, whose name is being withheld by the DAILY STAR, was apprehended
and brought to Police Station 1 by Lopue's Araneta civilian guard Jonathan Demontaņo,
after she allegedly left the store without paying for the beauty products she
took at about 12:55 p.m. yesterday, police records showed.
Recovered from the minor, who is from Brgy. Tangub, Bacolod City, were two bottles
of cologne and a bottle of facial powder with a total cost of P74.75, police reports
said. Two suspected shoplifters, including a minor, were also
endorsed by the guards of the department store to the police for allegedly leaving
the store without passing through the cashier Thursday. The
human resource officer of the store refused to comment on their security measures
regarding shoplifting, but their security supervisor said that, the minors could
have been just "tempted" to take the items.*PP back
