The representative of La Consolacion College-Bacolod recently bested nine other
entries and was again adjudged winner in the Songwriting contest for the environment.
Rogie Bacosa of Isabela, Negros Occidental, won with his
entry, entitled "Dagat" in the first Environment Songwriting Contest which is
one of the activities of the 15th Provincial Environment Week celebration from
June 18 to 22, a press release from the Capitol said. His song "Tubo kag Madamo
Pa" was launched in April as the official theme music of Panaad sa Negros Festival
after winning the Songwriting Competition last year. He also
interpreted his original composition during the contest Wednesday, at the Social
Hall of the Provincial Capitol in Bacolod City. Placing second
was the song "Tanan Isa Gid Lang" composed and interpreted by Randy Cuelo, also
of LCC-B, while "Manggad Sang Nagliligad" of Brucemon Bongco and interpreted by
Faustino Macaya of West Negros College, was third. The winners
received P5,000 cash for the first place, and P3,000 and P2,000 for the second
and third places, respectively. A consolation prize of P500 was also given to
non-winning entries. The contest entries were focused on this
year's theme "Our Seas, Our Life, Our Future". It also presents the state of the
environment and what can be done to save and preserve it.

the Baptist feast celebrated in Silay village
Barangay Mambulac in Silay, Negros Occidental
will celebrate the Feast of its patron saint, John de Baptist, with a series of
nightly programs, today until Sunday, a press release from event organizers said.
Romeda Mayo, barangay kagawad chairman of the Committee on Women and Family said
these will be a disco showdown by the Sangguniang Kabataan tonight, while the
women sector will have a beauty, brain and talent search at 6 p.m. tomorrow, and
an awarding of outstanding women in volunteer work or community service.
Vivian Dormido, of Sitio Pasil; Joy Suating of Antonio Luna; Marites Soribio of
Bat-os; May Tolido of Zone 7; and Divina Oberas of Zone 8 are vying for the title
of "Super Nanay 2007". The June 22 affair is a project of the Women's Council
and is supported by Gov. Joseph Maraņon, Vice Gov. Isidro Zayco and Rep. Jose
Carlos Lacson (3rd District) among other sponsors. The coronation
of Ms. Bulilit 2007 will be held tomorrow and that of the Lin-ay on Sunday, the
press release said. Fiesta activities are jointly supported
by the Barangay Council of Mambulac, headed by Punong Barangay Renato Doloso and
