Farmer coops get award

The National Food Authority awarded 12 farmer cooperatives in Oriental Negros by making them recipients of its Institutionalized Farmers as Distributors of NFA Rice Program.

The program is aimed at giving farmers the authority to undertake rice importation, as declared by President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo.

The approved total rice allocation under the IFAD is 9,747 bags. This will a generate income for farmers to uplift their economic and social living condition.

Farmers expressed their appreciation to NFA Oriental Negros.

Among the recipient cooperatives are the Canlaon City Multi-purpose Development Cooperative; Calambuan Multi-Purpose Agricultural Cooperative; Guihulngan Multi-Purpose Agricultural Cooperative, Inc;, San Jose Multi-purpose Agricultural Cooperative-Manjuyod; Bais Multi-purpose Agricultural Cooperative; San Jose Multi-Purpose Agricultural Cooperative, Zamboanguita Multi-purpose Agircultural Cooperative, Amlan Multi-Purpose Agricultural Cooperative, Inc.; Sta. Catalina Multi-Purpose Agricultural Cooperative, Inc.; Bayawan Multi-Purpose Agricultural Kilusang Bayan; Bayawan Community Cooperative; and the Basay Veterans Multi-purpose Cooperative.

NFA provincial manager Gil Ibarra encouraged the farmers, particularly the 12 recipients of IFAD, to continue selling their palay harvest as one of the requirements so that they can avail of much bigger share of rice under the program.*MA
