NegOr third in trafficking
of working kids -- DOLE
BY MARICAR ARANAS

Oriental Negros is third province in the country with the highest number of trafficking among working children, records at the Department of Labor and Employment revealed.

Msgr. Merlin Logronio of the Saint Maria Goretti Foundation said this development is so frustrating, because last year the province was only number four in the country.

This was revealed during the Kapihan Forum for the celebration of the World Day Against Child Labor on the theme, "Harvest for the Future, Agriculture without Child Labor."

City launches citizen's
transaction guidebook
BY JUANCHO GALLARDE

Dumaguete City launched a citizen's transaction guidebook, with technical assistance of the Development Academy of the Philippines, and funded by the British government through Global Opportunities yesterday.

The citizen's charter is intended to be a powerful instrument for transparency and accountability in government and for improved delivery of basic services.

It provides information on what the public can expect from their local government offices, as well as a redress mechanism for complaints and an opportunity for the public to give constructive comments and suggestions.

Wage hike moratorium sought

The Negros Oriental Chinese Chamber of Commerce and the Filipino-Chinese Chamber of Commerce do not favor the proposal for a wage increase.

The proposed was raised by businessmen and stakeholders in the province during the consultation of the proposed wage increase.

Earlier, the Trade Union Congress in the Philippines had proposed a P75 across the board increase in Region 7.

The FCCC said they agreed to have a two-year moratorium while NOCCI said the request is still being held in abeyance. Both organizations said they are not yet ready to give the wage hike.
