| The Department of Transportation and Communication is willing to
put up a counterpart fund for the airport being built in Kabankalan City, Gov.
Joseph Maraņon said yesterday. Earth-moving work has already began at
the site of the Kabankalan airport, he said. The Negros Occidental provincial
government has also provided a counterpart fund to Kabankalan City, he said.
The airport is being built to boost economic activity and tourism in southern
Negros Occidental, he said. Meanwhile, Maraņon said he expects the national
government to approve funding for the Guinhalaran alternate road to the new airport
in Silay City because of the urgency of its need, he said. The airport
of international standards is expected to be inaugurated in August.*CPG back
