German experts to assist
Negros Occ. in fisheries

Two German consultants will assist Negros Occidental in coastal fisheries and organic aquaculture, Governor Joseph Maraņon said yesterday.

Dr. Uwe Scholz, GTZ program adviser, will assist Negros Occidental in its Coastal Fisheries Resources Management, and Dr. Kai Kuhlmann, will help in the organic aquaculture program, the governor said.

The province was once a substantial producer of cultured shrimps. However, like all over South East Asia, a viral infection, the white spot disease, has led to a breakdown of the sector, a rationale on the German Development Assistance said.

Business leader backs improved ICT
curriculum in local schools

Roberto Montelibano, president of the Metro Bacolod Chamber of Commerce and Industry, said he is supporting efforts to establish an Information Technology curriculum in local schools that will support the business process outsourcing industry, particularly the call center companies, in Bacolod City and Negros Occidental.

Montelibano said the local academe should be supported to further develop educational and training opportunities for students who can be prospective employees of call centers.

Major call center companies Teleperformance and TeleTech are now operating in Bacolod while another leading operator, Convergys, is also expected to start its operations in the city this year.
