Sports council
eyeing more members

The Bacolod City Sports Council is expanding its membership this year by inviting the local sports organizations for football, volleyball, badminton and shooting to apply for accreditation in the council, Goldwyn Nifras, the BCSC legal counsel, said yesterday.

Nifras said the move is part of Mayor Evelio Leonardia's thrust to widen the representation of sports in the council, which only has 12 members so far, majority of them martial arts groups.

The sports association being eyed by the BCSC for swimming is the Negros Swimming Association, headed by Oscar Villanueva. Nifras said the BCSC may also invite the Negros Occidental Football Association and the Negros Occidental Volleyball Association to join the council.

"We are still finalizing the list. We may send the invitations next week," Nifras said. The membership of the sports organizations will go through the accreditation process that will be handled by a task force, which will include the committee chairman for sports in the Sangguniang Panlalawigan. *CPT
