Man from Cadiz collared
for violation of gun ban

A resident of Cadiz City, Negros Occidental, was arrested by the police late Wednesday in Bacolod City for allegedly threatening a restaurant employee with a gun, and for violating the Comelec gun ban.

Fernando Nueva, alias Orlando Villanueva, 71, of Hacienda Hortencia-Gatuslao, Cadiz City, was apprehended by Police Station 2 officers led by PO2 Anthony Marijana for allegedly threatening to shoot Carlo Aguilar, 22, of Brgy. Cervantes, Escalante City, at about 9:30 p.m. on June 13, police records showed.

Aguilar, a helper at Enting's restaurant at 16th Lacson Streets, told the police that Nueva approached him at the eatery and told him, "I will kill you here", at about 8:30 p.m. Wednesday.

Nueva was arrested by PNP men at 17th Lacson Streets, who recovered a homemade .38 caliber revolver with five live ammunition from the suspect who hid the gun in his hip bag. Nueva, however, said that he was just joking about shooting Aguilar when the complainant wore his clothes. He said he just found the gun in a grassy area near the restaurant. He is now detained at the Police Station 2 lock-up cell.*PP

'Minor who killed playmate
may be hiding in Cauayan'

The police said yesterday that the 11-year-old boy who shot his playmate in Kabankalan City, Negros Occidental, two months ago may have fled to the mountainous part of Cauayan town, making the search for him more difficult.

SPO2 Abraham Tugalon of the Kabankalan PNP said they have been looking for the teenager in Cauayan, where he reportedly fled after killing his playmate. He added that they have received information that the boy may have gone to the upper areas of the town to live with his relatives.

The suspect, whose name is being withheld by the DAILY STAR, shot dead his playmate, Michael Ian Buyco, with a homemade shotgun known as "sumpak" in an argument over a ball on April 26 in Brgy. Binicuil in Kabankalan, at about 11:30 a.m.

The Kabankalan police had earlier said that they have already filed a homicide case against the minor and are just waiting for the warrant of arrest from the court to start their hunt of the boy.*PP
