It is not only the last two senatorial candidates, Koko Pimentel and Miguel Zubiri who are on tenterhooks these days. In their case, they are awaiting the final results of the recent election to determine which of them will occupy the last remaining seat in the Upper House, with ten of the 12 already filled, and the 11th due to be proclaimed today. With the confusion over missing election officers and missing returns, sad to say, such results may not be known for a long time yet.

Other officials who are also palpitating in the ranks now are the members of the President's cabinet as well as the overpaid and overpampered heads of government-owned and controlled corporations, also known as GFIs, or government financing institutions. The President has announced through her spokespersons that she is asking them all to tender their resignations to give her the opening to "revamp" them.

That could mean goodbye to those who did not perform their duties to her satisfaction. It could also mean she has somebody else in mind to occupy their positions, someone she has more faith in, or who has a good track record of cooperation as far as her projects are concerned. But it could also mean they had committed acts that have worsened the situation, or omitted to do something that could have prevented it.

Sadly, however, the clarion call could also mean a mere shuffle of present hangers-on, and the country will wake up to see familiar faces in other places. If so, then there must be something to the claims of opposition groups that there are some people in high places who will never be replaced or transferred, either because they have been performing very well, or they know too much to be let loose elsewhere.

In any case, we have not heard of any resignations or movements yet, so let us just wait, and pray, that whoever are named, and wherever they are placed, will be better.*
