Dumaguete fiscal mgm't
sound, administrator says
BY JUANCHO GALLARDE

City administrator Dominador Dumalag Jr. said Dumaguete has shown sound fiscal management under Mayor Agustin Perdices as evidenced by its good roads, clean streets, well-preserved boulevard, and the sprouting of business establishments and food chains.

He said the city may have invested more than P100 million in the concreting of roads in the Poblacion area, but it will also save more than P20 million in yearly maintenance costs. The city's finance managers recently also finished short courses on local revenue planning at Silliman University.

The official population count of Dumaguete is 107,000 but could go up to 500,000 during day time, because of the presence of regional shoppers from southern Cebu, Negros Occidental, Siquijor, and parts of Mindanao.

PNP insists that I keep
bodyguards: Renacia
BY ROMY AMARADO

Mayor Antonio Renacia of Sibulan, Oriental Negros denied reports that he is maintaining bodyguards.

Renacia was reacting to a question at a television program recently, that he was still keeping three bodyguards, although when the May 14 polls are over. He, however said that his security people were strongly recommended by the chief of police of Sibulan because of the death threats he has been receiving.

"This is the first time that I am making it public that I had been receiving death threats before the May election," Renacia said adding that he received the threats through text messages.

'Immature' politicians hit

Reelected Oriental Negros Vice Governor Jose Baldado described politicians who harbor grudges against their opponents as "immature."

To reports that some supporters of politicians are being deprived of basic services by candidates they did not support in the elections, Baldado said public service should be for all. Reelected Sibulan Mayor Antonio Renacia also said local government officials should serve their constituents without consideration of political affiliations.

"We will serve everybody. Let us set aside the past, work together and move forward," Renacia said.
