RORO to link
Guimaras, Bacolod

A roll-on, roll-off system will soon be established in Guimaras province to enhance its transportation link to the cities of Bacolod and Iloilo.

This was announced by President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo during her visit to the neighboring province on Wednesday, saying that the RORO system will reach Guimaras from Bacolod through the towns of Sibunag and Jordan, and Iloilo province.

Arroyo directed concerned agencies to speed up the construction of the infractructure for the RoRo transport system from Sibunag to Jordan.

The RORO type of transport system is a method of vessel loading and discharging in which vehicles carrying cargo or passengers are driven on and off a ship on ramps.

Arroyo said during her visit that Guimaras is being prepared to become a "favored tourism destination" as she noted that after the rehabilitation efforts initiated by both the government and private organizations, more tourists are visiting now than before the Solar oil spill incident.

The presence of RORO vessels is expected to draw more tourists to Guimaras and boost the income of sectors who can benefit from low cost of sea transportation.*NLG
