| The 109th Independence Day celebration in Bacolod City today will
be highlighted by fireworks display and capped by the victory party of the Grupo
Progreso at the Bacolod Public Plaza. Development Bank of the Philippines
chairman of the board Patricia Sto. Tomas, who is guest speaker, will join Mayor
Evelio Leonardia, his wife Elsa, Vice Mayor Renecito Novero, the city councilors
and other officials in the flag-raising rites during a program at 7 a.m. today
at the plaza. Leonardia will deliver an Independence Day message, while
Novero will give the closing remarks after the floral offering at the tomb of
the unknown soldier. This year's theme is "Sama-sama Tayo Patungo sa Pag Asenso."
A civic-military parade will follow at 3 p.m. from the South Capitol Lagoon that
will pass through Lacson, Libertad, Araneta, Gonzaga, Gatuslao and Rizal streets,
passing the San Sebastian Cathedral and the viewing stand at San Juan Street in
front of the Bays Center. The parade will be participated in by the police,
war veterans, the Philippine Coast Guard, the Philippine Army, government officials
and employees, the different schools and school bands, government and non-government
agencies, barangay officials and DepEd officials. Also joining the parade
are the contingents of Land Bank of the Philippines, BACIWA, CENECO, Teleperformance,
Jollibee, TeleTech, Dunkin Donuts, Greenwich, San Miguel Corp., Bacolod Boys Home,
Boy Scout and Girl Scout of the Philippines and Mothers League of the Philippines.
A cultural show will follow at the Bacolod Public Plaza at 7 p.m.
Councilor Greg Gasataya is chairman of the 109th Independence Day celebration
