BAROTAC BOOTERS SPOIL ALL-BACOLOD FINALS

Seven different players were on target for West Negros College yesterday when it scored a 7-2 thrashing of Foundation University to clinch a finals slot in the Congressman Ferjenel Beron Inter-Collegiate Invitational Football Tournament at the Barotac Nuevo pitch.

Wesnecans Robert Caņedo, Ruffy Llorente, Carlo Tacusalme, Vince Braga, Jaime Poderos and new recruits Rhante Bayquin and Jovin Bedic all scored a goal each to pave the way for a championship showdown with Iloilo School of Fisheries at 3 p.m. on Wednesday. The Barotac-based ISCOF side, led by striker Ruben Doctora and Bervic Italia, spoiled an all-Bacolod final with a 3-1 victory over University of Negros Occidental-Recoletos in the other semifinal pairing.

The UNO-R booters of coach Carlo Torbela were relegated to a third place battle with Foundation at 3 p.m. today.

Coming off a 1-0 win over UNO-R Sunday, West Negros were picked to dominate Foundation but the Bacolod side started slow, before drawing the breakthrough goal from Caņedo in the 25th minute.

The pattern of dominance continued and two quick goals by Tacusalme and Braga in the 30th and 31st minutes extinguished any hopes of an upset by Foundation.

Poderoso was spot on in the 48th minute, before Bedic, Bayquin and Llorente capped the rout in a 22-minute span midway in the second half.

Three Bacolod teams actually joined the tournament although University Games champions St. La Salle failed to make the knockout stage, after UNO-R posted a better goal difference. *CPT
