Wife seeks justice
for slay of husband

The wife of a 25-year-old mechanic who was stabbed dead in Bacolod City late Friday said yesterday that, she will see to it that those responsible for the death of her husband, Dennis, will go to jail.

"I want them to go to jail even if they're my relatives," Jennifer Macasa, 24, said. Police records show that Dennis was stabbed by Eddie Bascos, 54, at the house of the suspect's brother, George, in Purok Paglaum, Brgy. 17, Bacolod City at about 10:45 p.m. on June 8.

An Amity crew rushed the victim to the Corazon Locsin Montelibano Memorial Regional Hospital, where he was declared dead on arrival.

Case investigator PO3 Julius Lagon of Police Station 2 said an argument between him and Bascos after a drinking spree may have led to the killing.

Jennifer, however, said it was because of an old grudge.

She said that her aunt, Carmelita, George Bascos' wife, resented the fact that Dennis did not give money to her anymore after they moved out from her aunt's house.

On Friday, Jennifer said Dennis went to the Bascos' house because Carmelita and George asked him to come over and have a drink with them.

She said she later went to her aunt's house but Dennis told her that he will go home after his favorite Korean TV show. She added that her aunt even chided her, asking why she can't wait for her husband to go home.

Later, a neighbor informed her that Dennis had been stabbed and that he managed to say, "They really set me up," before he died.

"That means my aunt knew what was happening in their house but she did not do anything. What kind of an aunt is she?" Jennifer asked.

She added that the same neighbor, who helped Dennis and heard his last words, is willing to testify against the suspect.

Carmelita, on the other hand, claimed that she was already asleep when the incident happened, the police said.

Meanwhile, Lagon said that they will look into the autopsy report on Dennis' body, which will be released today, to see if he had been ganged up on, or if only one person had stabbed him.*PP
